So let's say we might top five most active writing projects to start off with and just create more as and when you do as and when you need to. First of all, I'd like to apply this system to other types of thing that I do with my vault as well. Each card is a text node with the queue name and count, linking to the actual queue file. Cards could be grouped (writing projects in one colour, admin in another). You could drag them around to reflect priority or grouping.
**Why Canvas could be compelling:**
- Spatial layout carries information (position = priority or relatedness)
- You can manually arrange cards to reflect your current focus
- Visual variety — different from the rest of your note-based workflow
- Obsidian's Canvas is quite polished now
**Trade-offs:**
- Canvas JSON is programmatically maintainable but more complex than markdown
- Embedded full notes would be overwhelming (large queues = huge cards), so these would be summary-only text cards with links
- Doesn't render as well on mobile as markdown
- Every time a queue is created or removed, the canvas needs regenerating
### Option 4: Base Table View
An `.obsidian` Base (`.base` file) that queries all queue files:

**Why Base could work:**
- Sortable and filterable (which queues have the most items? Which are oldest?)
- Feels like a proper database view
- Native Obsidian feature
**Trade-offs:**
- Bases work best with file-level properties, so queue files would need `items`, `oldest-entry`, `latest-entry` in frontmatter — maintained by `/remember`
- Less visually warm than callout cards
- Relatively new Obsidian feature; less battle-tested
### Option 5: Hybrid — Callout Dashboard + Base Detail View
The callout-card dashboard (Option 1) as your "at a glance" view, plus a Base (Option 4) for when you want to sort/filter/drill down. Two different views of the same data.
**Why hybrid:**
- Quick scan → open dashboard note
- Detailed analysis → open base view
- Each format plays to its strengths
### My Assessment
If I had to pick one, I'd go with **Option 1 (callout cards)** for these reasons:
1. It plays to Obsidian's visual strengths and your current theme
2. Collapsible callouts handle growth well (10 queues won't overwhelm the view)
3. It gives you previews (context tags from recent entries) without requiring you to open each queue
4. It works on mobile
5. It's pure markdown — robust, no plugin dependencies
6. Different callout types give natural visual categorisation (writing vs. admin vs. inbox)
The **Canvas** is a strong second if you value spatial arrangement. The **Base** is good as a companion view but not as a primary dashboard.

## Part 4: Additional Mechanisms Worth Considering
### A. Processing workflow
Right now there's no way to "process" a queue — mark items as integrated or discard them. You could:
**A1. Manual deletion.** When you integrate something into a draft, you delete it from the queue. Simple, destructive, no record.
**A2. Strikethrough convention.** Processed items get their heading struck through: `### ~~2026-02-10 — Context tag~~`. They stay visible but are visually marked as done. The dashboard count ignores struck-through entries.
**A3. Archive section.** Each queue file has a `## Processed` section at the bottom. When you process an item, it moves down there. The queue shows only unprocessed items; the archive is a record.
**A4. Guided review command.** A `/process-queue typography` command that walks through each pending item and asks: *Integrate into draft? Keep for later? Discard? Move to another queue?* Then acts accordingly.
I'd suggest **A2 (strikethrough)** as the simplest starting point — it requires zero infrastructure and gives visual feedback. **A4** is appealing for serious review sessions but is a later-phase build.
### B. Morning review integration
The daily `/morning-review` could include a line like:

This gives you passive awareness without opening the dashboard. Very low friction to implement — just add a queue-count step to the morning review.
### C. Queue age warnings

This nudges you toward review without being pushy.
### D. Cross-queue search
A `/search-queues [term]` command that greps across all queue files for a keyword. Useful when you think "didn't I bank something about Lipton?" but can't remember which queue it went to.

Sometimes a queued item turns out to deserve its own permanent note. A `/promote [item]` command could take a queue entry and create a standalone note via `/smart-note`, then mark the queue entry as processed.

1. **Enhance `/remember`** — add target prefix syntax, dynamic queue creation, broader routing logic

## Remaining uncertainties
- **Naming convention**: `Integration Queue` vs. `Queue` — both work; this is a taste call
- **Callout types**: Which callout types map to which queue categories? (This is a theming/visual question you'd want to see rendered)
- **How many domain queues**: Will you actually create many, or will most captures route to writing projects? Hard to know until you use it
- **Processing frequency**: Do you review queues regularly or only when sitting down to write? This affects whether age warnings are useful
