The filtering selects for textual properties. That filtering is real even if virtues don't resolve the disputes.
### Second Movement: What the model has learned (Beats 6-9)
6. What "latent" means. Grammar analogy. Virtues latent in the distribution — implicit in statistical regularities, not explicitly represented as rules. A claim about tendency, not every output.
7. Transitive calibration. The tradition as evaluative feedback loop: proposing, testing, refining, discarding. Borrowed calibration. 10. Latent ≠ expressed. Unprompted LLMs produce generic, hedging text. The virtues are in the distribution but not the default output. The prompt determines which region.
