This section is preserved across syncs. --> ## Conversation ### User Please could you create me a monkey island 2 style point and click based on Red Dwarf. It should allow you to play one of the four main characters, and have sets and references for fans. The graphics should be pixaly and MI2 like. ### Assistant A Red Dwarf point-and-click in the MI2 style — verb grid, inventory, pixel sets, the lot. I'll build it as a self-contained HTML game and publish it as an artifact you can play in the browser. Let me load the design guidance first, then get to work on the engine, the four smegheads, and the sets. ### Assistant The file opened in the Browser pane — let me test it before publishing. ### Assistant The pane won't load file:// URLs, so I'll serve it locally. ### Assistant Title screen is right now. Playtesting as Lister: ### Assistant Now reloading and driving the full puzzle chain programmatically to verify the game logic end to end: ### Assistant Charset fix confirmed — quotes render properly now. The long queued dialogue is still playing; waiting for it to reach the ending: ### Assistant The full game plays through to the end screen. Now checking the other three sets and the dialogue-tree UI: ### Assistant Corridor set works — vending machine, directive poster, stasis booth, skutter, and Rimmer in his uniform. Checking the drive room and Holly's dialogue tree: ### Assistant The drive room reads beautifully — Holly's deadpan face, sparking navicomp, hazard-striped drive plate, captain's chair. Testing the classic exchange: ### Assistant Last set to check — the galley with Talkie Toaster: ### Assistant Canvas clicks are correctly locked during conversations. Ending the chat, then testing the walk: ### Assistant Everything checks out — walking, all four sets, both dialogue trees, the full puzzle chain, and the ending. Publishing it as an artifact: ### Assistant Done — the game is playable here: [Red Dwarf II: The Toaster's Revenge](https://claude.ai/code/artifact/aaaec186-bf40-4bf3-afd3-0873eb70db52) (the server failure notice above is just me shutting down the temporary test server). It's a full MI2-style SCUMM game in the LucasArts mould: 320×180 pixel-art canvas scaled up, the nine-verb grid (Give/Open/Close, Pick up/Look at/Talk to, Use/Push/Pull), a green sentence line, pixel-icon inventory, click-to-walk with perspective scaling, and right-click as a look-at shortcut. What's in it: - Four playable characters — Lister, Rimmer (with the H), Cat, and Kryten — each with their own sprite and dozens of character-specific responses. The same hotspot answers differently depending on who you are. - Four sets: the sleeping quarters (bunks, revision timetable, Fiji poster, Lennon and McCartney the robot goldfish), Corridor 159 (vending machine, skutter watching a western, stasis booth, directives poster), the drive room (Holly on the big screen, blinking; the navicomp; the drive plate nobody should touch), and the galley (Talkie Toaster, the fridge, the emergency vindaloo). - A proper puzzle chain: Holly announces the navicomp's gone squiffy → find a dollarpound in Rimmer's sock drawer → buy a data chip from the vending machine (it arrives coated in vindaloo) → get bread from the fridge → bribe Talkie Toaster with toast to earn the dishcloth → wipe the chip → fix the navicomp. THE END screen scores you 800 out of 800, LucasArts-style. - Fan service throughout: "Everybody's dead, Dave" plays out differently for each character, Holly's PE-teacher IQ line, gazpacho soup in the fridge, Space Corps Directives (Kryten cites 1742), the triple fried egg butty on the menu, "Smoke me a kipper" as Rimmer's sign-off, and Talkie Toaster's full muffin-crumpet-flapjack escalation if you keep refusing toast. I playtested it end to end in the browser: the whole puzzle chain, both dialogue trees, all four rooms, walking, and the ending all verified working, with no console errors. The artifact is private to you until you choose to share it. If you'd like more rooms (Starbug cockpit? the hold with Mr Flibble?), a second act, or tweaks to any character's lines, say the word. *Tre milioni di anni dalla Terra, e l'ultimo ostacolo tra te e la salvezza è un tostapane che vuole solo parlare di pane.* ### User i was really hoping for a lot more graphics wise. I don't mind pixelated graphics, but i don't think you really tried to make either the chatacters or locations pretty ### Assistant Fair criticism — I went too minimal on the art. Let me do a proper art pass: fully re-authored pixel sprites (hand-drawn pixel grids with shading, outlines, walk cycles, and portrait close-ups), and much richer sets — dithered gradients, bevelled panels, light pools, animated details (fish, steam, smoke, blinking consoles, scanlines on Holly's CRT), plus a vignette and monitor-scanline overlay for that VGA-on-a-CRT feel. Game logic stays exactly as verified; the entire art layer gets rebuilt. ### User [Request interrupted by user] ### User like even a tiny pit bit* ### Assistant The guitar reads properly now and the room has depth. Checking the other three sets: ### Assistant All four sets are transformed. Running the regression test on the puzzle chain, then checking the remaining sprites: ### Assistant Rimmer's H reads properly now. Checking Kryten's in-game sprite: ### Assistant Kryten's angular mechanoid look works. Everything is verified — republishing to the same artifact URL: ### Assistant Fair point taken — the art layer has been completely rebuilt. Same link: [Red Dwarf II: The Toaster's Revenge](https://claude.ai/code/artifact/aaaec186-bf40-4bf3-afd3-0873eb70db52) (that last notice is just the test server shutting down). What changed graphically: - Characters are now hand-drawn pixel sprite sheets rather than stacked rectangles: proper faces with eyes, brows and mouths, shaded clothing, dark auto-outlines so they pop off the background, a four-phase walk cycle, and a ground shadow. Each smeghead has a distinct silhouette — Cat's pompadour and long magenta jacket, Rimmer's forehead H, Kryten's flat grooved mechanoid head, Lister's leathers. - The select screen has proper pixel portrait busts of all four, plus a shaded Red Dwarf flying over a starfield with nebulae. - Sets got a full repaint: dithered two-tone walls with bevelled panel seams, ceiling lamps casting light cones, perspective floors with fanning seams and light pools, and a vignette plus CRT scanline overlay across the whole screen for the VGA-monitor feel. - Lots of living detail: Holly is now a properly shaded face on a scanlined, flickering CRT whose mouth moves when he speaks; the toaster blinks and talks with its mouth, and shows proud toast after you feed it; the fish patrol the tank with rising bubbles; steam curls off the vindaloo; the navicomp flashes error-red and smokes until fixed, then goes green; the skutter trundles and tilts its head; console lights blink; the drive-room sign pulses. - The quarters now tell the story visually — Rimmer's immaculate top bunk with crisp fold and pillow against Lister's crime-scene bottom bunk with a curry carton on it, a sunset Fiji poster, the colour-coded timetable, a porthole of stars, and a guitar that actually looks like a guitar. - The end screen shows the Dwarf sailing on through a starfield. I re-verified the whole thing after the rebuild: the complete puzzle chain still passes, all four rooms render, the dialogue trees work, and the ending fires. If any room still feels flat to you, name it and I'll push that set further. *Stavolta la nave ha le sue ombre, i suoi neon e la sua polvere — tre milioni di anni di sporco disegnati pixel per pixel.*
