# Atmospheres Conference Day 1
René Jagnow
I don't think I have ever re-recognised an atmosphere. I don't think i am splitting hairs either
## Touch
[[Luca Marchetti]] and Camilla Palazzolo
temporal distinctiveness
"there is a distinctive tactile quality in vibrational properties"
- touch with what part of the body?
- we normally know which sense to engage with a piece of art and which are wrong, like licking a painting.
- But with touch, given that we have skin over most our our bodies we can touch haptic art with any of those
- but [[the experience]] will differ...
- Now you might think that you can just say that artist has to tell the appreciator what to touch with
- But then maybe we want to be talking about different arts for different parts of the body
I wonder if this makes it hard to say what the right way to experience a piece of haptic art
## [[functional beauty]]
- it is about perceiving something as a perfect specimin of what it is. Perceiving something that is fit for function.
- Is the function of food really just to be eaten? That would mean that anything edible feels equally fit for function in the mouth
