### Part 1: Bird's Eye View of the Class Structure
Here is the narrative arc of the class, which mirrors the [[argumentative structure]] of Chapter 5. Think of it as a journey from "Observation" to "Theory," then "Conflict," and finally "Refinement."
Act I: The Messy Reality (Phenomenology)
We begin (Slides 3–15) by looking at [[material culture]] as it actually appears to us, before applying any heavy theory. The text calls this the "Phenomenology." [[The goal]] here is to establish the data points that any good theory must explain. We see that [[the relationship between]] an object’s [[physical structure]] and its function is loose—spoons can be made of anything (Multiple Realizability) and used for anything (Multiple Utilizability).
