# Anticipation, creativity and picture perception **Opening (not a real abstract):** Anticipation plays an important role in visual cognition as only a limited amount of information from visual sensation can be processed due to the physiology of the visual system. Therefore, in order to make efficient use of this information, in making judgements and guiding action, the brain needs to represent the probability of various events and objects being the cause of visual sensations. In short, we perceive by constantly making inferences based on visual sensations, that is, by anticipating. In recent years there has been a growing body of theoretical and scientific work that suggests Bayesian Inference can offer a framework to understand the role of inference in visual perception (Knill and Pouget, 2004; Friston, 2009, 2010; Seriès and Seitz, 2013).1 Bayesian Inference is a way to describe **Authors:** [[Mark Donoghue]]
