# DoYouHaveConstantTactileExperienceofYourFeetinYourShoesHandout **Opening (not a real abstract):** Do You Have Constant Tactile Experience of Your Feet in Your Shoes? Rich and Thin Conceptions of Consciousness The rich view holds that we are (perhaps only in a very low level way) conscious of the various stimuli that cause supraliminal perceptual attunement/responsiveness, as well as what we are paying attention to. The thin view holds that we are only conscious of the things which we are paying attention to. This could be more than one thing of course. The Car Example: Rich: You were (perhaps only in a very low level way) conscious of the road in front of you, the stop signs etc. Thin: Despite your attunement/responsiveness, you were not conscious of the road in front of you, the stop signs etc. Put another way, are unattended but behaviour inducing stimuli more similar to the (uncontroversially conscious) “sensations of objects to which we are paying close attention”
