# Knowledge and the Aesthetics of Nature **Opening (not a real abstract):** The standard approach to the aesthetics of organic nature in the growing natural aesthetics literature is conceptualist. According to this approach, knowledge and correct classification are necessary for the appropriate aesthetic appreciation of nature. Our aesthetic perception and appreciation are improved insofar as we have the relevant knowledge and can categorize objects accurately. Such a commitment has been apparent since the beginning of our philosophical tradition. For instance, Aristotle writes that when we explore and understand it, ‘every realm of nature is marvellous’; ‘we should venture on the study of every kind of animal without distaste; for each and all will reveal to us something natural and something beautiful’ (Aristotle n.d.: I.5).
