# Odours Objects and Olfaction - current **Keywords:** odours, olfactory experience, visuocentricism, indirect perception, audition **Abstract:** Are both odours and physical objects represented in olfaction? I argue not. There is one too many ‘Os’ in the title of my paper, at least from the perspective of the content of olfactory perception. The one to be eliminated is the object. Olfactory experience does not represent objects. This is despite the fact that odours are to be identified with moleculeclouds that are pieces of objects. On this view, odours are individuals that stand in a partwhole relation to objects. Such an account is to be preferred to one that identifies odours with properties, either of objects or molecule-clouds. In reaching these conclusions, I lean on lessons learned from recent philosophical theorising about audition, contrasting and comparing olfaction (and odours) with audition (and sounds). **Authors:** [[Dan Cavedon-Taylor]]
