Reports shifted with the advent of colour TV. Either dream phenomenology genuinely shifted with media technology (implausible), or introspective reports are systematically shaped by conceptual frameworks and expectations. **The desiderata problem**: introspective reports are theory-laden. The heterogeneity theorist owes a principled reason to prefer the variation-in-experience interpretation over the variation-in-introspective-competence interpretation. ### Positive Proposals 1. **Methodological**: Privilege convergence between introspective reports and third-person evidence. Where they diverge, treat introspective reports as the weakest link. 2. **Phenomenal indeterminacy** (speculative): Perhaps inner speech doesn't have fully determinate phenomenal character.
