On a distal-event view, which treats sounds as events located at their sources, the question becomes: what is the relationship between the sound event and its (co-located) event source?1 Different versions of the view yield different answers. According to O’Callaghan (2011), sounds are events – disturbings of media – that are proper parts of their event sources.
