# Spatial Hearing **Opening (not a real abstract):** The goal of the original German edition of this book, published in 1974, was to offer readers an introductory survey and analysis of the fundamentals of spatial hearing. It has been gratifying to hear from my students and other readers that the book is indeed serving its intended purpose, both as an introductory text and as a reference work. The book has been well received outside German-speaking countries, too. A Russian edition was published in 1980, and a Japanese edition is now being prepared. I am especially pleased that an English-language edition is now available as well. The interest of many colleagues was extremely helpful in making this edition possible.
