# Spatial Hearing in Analytic Philosophy Since 2006
## Executive Summary
The analytic-philosophy literature on spatial hearing since 2006 is best approached through three connected questions. ## Corpus Boundaries and Assumptions
This report uses PhilPapers only. I have treated PhilPapers bibliographic metadata, abstracts, search-result snippets, category pages, and linked entry pages as the evidence base. The ranked corpus is limited to articles, book chapters, and books from 2006 onwards. Dissertations and encyclopedia entries are excluded from the top-30 list, even where they are philosophically relevant or visible on PhilPapers.
Two assumptions about the data matter. PhilPapers sometimes displays multiple entries, versions, or reprints of the same work, and citation counts can vary between a search-result cluster and a particular entry page. I therefore treat the citation count as the PhilPapers-visible count for the version or search result consulted, not as a fully normalised bibliometric measure. I mark missing or unstable counts as `n/a` where needed. The timeline and chart also concern the ranked top-30 corpus, not every relevant PhilPapers record.
The language constraint should also be explicit. I prioritised the English-language analytic-philosophy literature, because that is where these debates are concentrated on PhilPapers and because the brief was for an English report. Some adjacent non-English or phenomenological works appeared during the search, but the ranked table deliberately favours the English-language analytic discussion.
The spike in 2009 reflects the role of *Sounds and Perception*. The cluster in 2017 reflects renewed work on auditory space, richer auditory content, musical space, and multisensory-adjacent cases. The sparse recent years do not show lack of interest by themselves; they reflect the strict top-30 selection under the source and genre constraints.
