# Twofold Indexical Nature **Opening (not a real abstract):** The aim of this article is to propose a reflection on how the indexical and counterfactual relation of photography with its subject does not prevent its symbolic use. For this purpose, I propose an analysis of the images generated by a superposition of multiple photographs, the socalled multiple exposure photographs. The images I analyze arise from the collection of waste material (that paper that is printed to clean the ink from the rollers between one print and another) from a previous book by the same authors and artists, Broomberg and Chanarin. In this case, the images result from the superposition, randomly operated by the printing device, on the previously printed images. The final product of this procedure, which we can effectively fit into the broad category of multiple exposure photography, leads us to reflect on the
