**Opening (not a real abstract):** Introducing Property Dualism: Qualia and the Brain The previous chapter was concerned with the view that minds and physical 3.1 bodies are two distinct kinds of things. In the present chapter, the focus is not so much on things, but instead on the properties or qualities of things. More specifically, we will be concerned with the relations between a person’s mental properties and their physical properties. Perhaps a person is just one “thing” but has two very different sorts of properties. Property dualism holds that mental properties are a distinct kind of property, a kind of property not identical to or “reducible” to any kind of physical property. To get the feel of what property dualism is all about, it helps to focus on 3.2 two key ideas in philosophy of mind, and notice an apparent tension
