# pea_phd_Amati **Abstract:** The structures that define the aesthetics of an artwork are measurable. Computational formalism exploits machine learning to extract data and mathematics to provide quantitative descriptions, hence identify: the presence of rational creative elements and how the overall aesthetics depends on them; the prevalence and evolution of those parametric functions that acquire significance within a specific cultural production, thus determining its patterns. The proposed experimentation therefore intends to detect representative models, aiming to reproduce both the frequent and the rare forms, and to generate algorithms to classify and compose the constituent structures. Some analogies in the field of Literature have been listed to suggest the potential application in the Visual and Performing Arts field. The presentation of the project ends with the description of the parametric analysis method and, by way of example, showing some of the graphs produced for the editing analysis of a case study: Red Desert - film directed by Michelangelo Antonioni (1964).
