# psycehdelic experience **Opening (not a real abstract):** In the previous chapter, we considered the evidence that psychedelics may reveal the mind by revealing hidden memories. In this chapter, we will examine some evidence that may initially appear to be against the hypothesis that psychedelics reveal the mind: namely, that psychedelics cause visual hallucinations. To many readers, the fact that psychedelics cause hallucinations suggests that psychedelics do something other than reveal the mind. One reason for this stems from the fact that the onset of hallucinations can be a sign of an underlying health problem. This can drive the intuition that psychedelic-induced hallucinations are the result of some deleterious effect on mind.
