# touch without touching **Opening (not a real abstract):** To see a cup on the table is to see a particular individual — that very cup — with its various qualities, located in relation to other visual objects and properties. Perceptual experiences like these seem to possess demonstrative content; the experiences seem to be about or refer to particular individual objects. Visual and auditory experiences can be about or refer to objects (or events) even when those objects are located far away from our bodies. In addition, these modalities seem to directly represent distal objects, without representing any intermediary connecting us to them. I see the cup without seeing the light contacting my retina. I experience a distant sound as located far away, not as travelling through the air from its source all the way to my ears.
