- My notes:
- Summary: The Paedophile Information Exchange (PIE) tried to align itself with civil rights movements to advocate for lowering the age of consent and sexual relationships with children. This tactic is mirrored in modern movements, where some trans activists have co-opted the language of gay rights to push for radical changes, like allowing minors to transition. Such associations can harm the credibility of legitimate movements and lead to public backlash against their goals.

## Highlights
> Gays and lesbians were asking to be included in society: to be allowed to marry and have children, and to be protected against discrimination and violence for being “born this way”, as one of the movement’s most successful slogans had it. Trans activism borrowed the language of “born this way” to make a far more drastic case, squeezing itself into the same movement as LGB was expanded to LGBT. If a woman happened to have been “born in a male body”, surely it was unfair to punish her for that. In 2004 the gay and lesbian lobby group Stonewall announced it would in future be focusing on trans rights. ([View Highlight](https://read.readwise.io/read/01jh586fg2vrp1ahdt0e7am3g1))
